But that was not a measure of intelligence, just a measure of memory. Just an intellectual challange. I don't think its neccessary to scorn such an achievement. People go for records of all kinds. Is it any less of an achievement than setting a record for the most number of goals in a year by an athelete?

I believe this is dirctly related to the school system.
I ahve been in the school in Finland, Sweden, USA, Italy, Cyprus, Canada, and Burundi in Africa. Only Finland and to soem extent Burundi (Rwanda) requires the students to learn.
They demand discipline that does not exist in Swedish and American school system.

It would indeed. Pi cannot be expressed "exactly" since it is a non-repeating, non-terminating irrational number.
