God , the horror ! If that happened , people might feel like site moderation was unfair , arbitrary , or capricious . Oh wait , they already do .

What was your point ?
My point is that Phlab catches way too much of your bullspit for the actions of the entire moderation team and the site administrators. He chooses to participate in the forums unlike the other moderators and all he gets is this undeserved flak.

The moderation on this site is perfectly fine. If you get a three day ban which you feel was unwarranted or you have a post removed which you feel should've stayed or you feel a moderator is biased, then go have yourself a good cry and everything will be fine afterwards.

Bowmann for mod ? What's your platform , Bowmann ? Would you immediately delete bad grammar and incorrect spelling , or would you lecture and correct posters ?

I'll put together a manifesto.

I've told him to quit his moderator job. He just won't listen.

I personally don't care too much what the rules are, if only we had an inkling of what they were. [ok so we do have a slight inkling but that's about all]
The most ridiculous part of this is even if you are banned you never KNOW what it was for. [Or even which post it was for]
Some people will say you must know; no we can only guess.
The nearest I have had to an explanation is this thread.

Here are the rules:

1) Don't swear
2) Don't spam

Clear now?

EDIT - Forgot rule 3 - If you get banned or have a post removed, be sure to play dumb for as long as possible.

One can have an inkling. A 'slight inkling' makes no sense.

I have addressed this point in the Site Ideas forum. If the other moderators were more visible and approachable, and if you would get to know who gave out a ban, this would be much less of a problem. I guess it will never be totally unproblematic to have a moderator who is also a very active participant in the forums, though. The chances that such a moderator will either be biased or be seen as biased or both are quite high. I have been a moderator and active participant on a mailing list, and I know some people preferred to take up things with the other moderator who didn't write much on the list, because they thought I might be too much involved in the stuff they needed to talk about. On the other hand, it can sometimes be easier to talk to someone you know better. So it's probably best to have both types of moderators.

Phlabby's like a cop who tries to be your friend . He even buys you a couple of shots and a couple of beers at the bar . He drinks the same amount with you at said bar . Then , just as being just as buzzed as you are , pulls you over on your way home and tosses your butt in jail for driving under the influence . Then he cries because no one understands how difficult his job is , or how important it is for him to protect us , and how it was for our own good .

I'm not going to cry about your last post . Puke maybe , but not cry .

And before you accuse me of piling on him ; I'll be the first to say : Phlabby , you're a likable , funny , smart , etc . But you can't be everybodies buddy and an impartial mod at the same time . I think that idea is inherently flawed , and I think you know it . You blur the line too much . When you act as a mod and someone has a hard time with your actions in your role as a mod - you take it personally . Then when persons you're close to cross the line - the mod role sometimes gets tossed out the window .

This leads me to doubt many things you say in either capacity .

If I have slightly more than an inkling, do I have an ink?

As an adult, I use my own discretion which is what the moderators do as well.
