supposedly the ones you swallow while sleeping are the little baby spiders that float through the air on a little bit of webbing, they get sucked in, stuck in your saliva, and swallowed. The actual incidence of people swallowing huge spiders while they sleep is most likley pretty rare, but i'll bet it has happened.

I was washing some grapes today that I had purchased at the store yesterday.
While I am running them under cool water, out pops a big spider.
We have spiders around here, but there are only a few varieties, and this was DEFINITELY not of the normal variety.
It was a very large spider and not normal looking.
So I checked where the grapes were from a ...[text shortened]... r imported fruit?
Could there be more suspicious spider roaming my house now?

This will tell you why they're called wolf spiders. Yeah, they're pretty creepy spiders.

I am indeed sorry I asked. That scares the bejeezus out of me.
And I bet if I were in the same room, that spider would know I was afraid, and would go straight for the throat.

EDIT: To anyone from the Spirituality forum: no, I don't actually believe in bejeezus. So, technically, there's no bejeezus to get scared out of me.
