For years diesel was cheaper than gas. It is a cruder, less refined product., at least to my understanding. The oil companies raised the price to simply bend the truckers over the oil barrel.
There is a lot of talk about alternative energy. I think they won't do much about it until the greedy oil companies sell every last drop of oil. Then they will monopolize the alternatives just as they did the petroleum .

If America could get its head out of the dark ages and have cars run on solar/electric power then we wouldn't be in this mess. Think about it, one sun can make all the cars move where as one gallon of gas for one car. Hell throw in wind power while we're at it. Once the car is moving, the win acting upon it while moving about could generate electricity could it not? Sure the automotive manufacturers would hurt for a while, but hell they're not doing so hot as it stands. Things have to get worse before they can get better.

No, it could not. You'd increase drag trying and have to use more energy to compensate for the increased drag. You'd end up losing energy.
