Anyone know the price in Europe and Eastern Europe?
It's €1.60 per litre in Poland. Monthly wage is about €300.

I'm just back from Portugal and unleaded was €1.50.

EDIT - Can't confirm the date that article was published. 😕

EDIT2 - In Toronto, gas is $1.30 a litre. ($5.20/gallon)
I think that's from 2005. Apparently the price in Norway is about $11 per gallon now: http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Top_News/2008/05/23/norwegians_protest_high_gas_prices/3669/

It's mostly speculators at this point driving the cost of oil futures higher and higher.

Goldman Sachs forecasts $200/barrel by next year. Guess which company controls the largest oil futures fund?

10 years ago oil futures speculation was around $20 Billion. This year its $500 billion.

When you increase the demand for oil futures, guess what happe ...[text shortened]... takes a tumble.

Oil prices are in a bubble right now...and like all bubbles, it will burst
Didn't you learn anything from the last time we talked about this? 😞

Good grief, these prices are harsh. This is going to hammer some of these economies, which were showing signs of good growth.

I live in a border town and I cross into the US all the time to gas up the car, so I'm always familiar with the conversion rate. Gas is always 20 cents a litre cheaper over there because the station I go to is on Indian land and because they don't pay state taxes on gas, it's a bargain. That's my way of protesting the gouging gas prices here. I think the people here have driven at least 3 gas stations out of business because of doing what I've been doing for years.

Roughly $4.09 in the greater Albany area of NY.
It's between 4.19 and 4.39 a gallon in Los Angeles, however, I drive a new Prius and it roughly gets around 46 miles/gal.

I love my car. It's silver and has those carpool HOV stickers too.
People have offered me 8,000 dollars more than my car is worth.

That's because there's a waiting list for the Prius.
And you can't even get the carpool stickers anymore.
The government only gave out a select number.

Don't want to crowd the carpool lane now do we?
That would defeat the purpose.

Biodiesel is cool too. I was thinking about converting an old Volvo or Mercedes into one of those super cars that runs on used cooking oil.
It's good for the environment and wherever you go it smells like French fries!

Double Bonus!

I'm glad that gas is skyrocketing.
It's forcing WE AS A PEOPLE to embrace alternative fuel sources.
One way or another we're all going to have to change for the better.

Sounds nice in theory. My school has a hard time getting employees, and we all live a distance from the school. Very few people with college degrees live near there; possibly very few with high school diplomas, so the pool of potential teachers is certainly not a local one. They've lost a lot of staff because of the distance, and subs won't drive that far either. I'll be carpooling because I can, but if the cost keeps going up the school will be hurting even more as fewer and fewer teachers stay. But hey, if you want to buy me a car that uses alternative fuel, I'll give you my address. It's a nice theory you have, but in reality it seems more harmful than practical.

Let the "free market" decide.

What free market? The law of supply and demand maybe ...

That's funny coming from the man who thinks world demand for oil isn't rising.
