Please. Don't preach Dianetics to me.
Most people have a drink now and then. Sometimes we get drunk, do stupid shit, get a hangover an then go on with our lives.
Alcoholics can't get to grips with real life or stress or whatever and they find solace in the bottle. They should try to make friends or something.
Don't plead the victim to me if you be ...[text shortened]... e people are more susceptible to the effects, but that is not an excuse.
It's NOT a disease.
I guess you are one of those people who say that AIDS is self-inflicted.🙄

I have an alcoholic uncle. He is slowly, but surely getting a hold of himself. After a failed marriage he started drinking. That caused his next serious 'girlfriend' to leave him. That just depressed him more - so he drank more.
I don't care what the medical fraternity 'classifies' it as. Alcoholism can be nipped in the bud.
Bloody hell, a socially acceptable drug is now turning the weak minded people into pussies who cry about their crappy and stressful lives and why they turned to the bottle for comfort. Then they go on Oprah and miraculously recover.
It's BS. Drink, but know your limits.
BTW. It's not a disease.
Very the burglar of the donkey which you are affected.

as an aside, whether it's a disease or not, if your advice to alcoholics is that "they should try to make friends or something", then i say thank feck you're not employed as a counsellor.
dis·ease
n.
1. A pathological condition of a part, organ, or system of an organism resulting from various causes, such as infection, genetic defect, or environmental stress, and characterized by an identifiable group of signs or symptoms.
2. A condition or tendency, as of society, regarded as abnormal and harmful.
Alcoholism would seem to fit 2. but not 1., but 2. doesn't sound like a medical definition to me.
