it is a myth, iam gonna turn on my lights, start the car, kick the cat,
leave the wife, shave my head, turn up the heating, leave the tv on stand by,brew some greenhouse gases.
It's not really a massive problem.
If you think about it...the only massive problem is people being too lazy to do anything about it.
If 75% of people on the earth planted a tree then it'd make a big impact, or if everyone turned off powerpoints at night before going to sleep.
But yeah....people are lazy and believe it isnt true.
Alternativly we could bug our governments to put more effort into Global warming.
Ok so they are just stats i pulled out my a**...ad no im not a hippy...i just don't want my kids kids kids kids (ect.) being destroyed along with the earth.
AND personally i dont care too much about coz im down under in australia and we got a friggin drought to worry about grrr.
30% of max dam capacity..so yeah
Originally posted by BonfaI would not throw around words like 'proven' so lightly, what would be better said is 'proven beyond reasonable doubt', it is indeed a very complicated scenerio, this climate business; and sometimes notions of just 'global warming' can be misleading. Climate change might bring drought to previously wet areas, raise sea levels, perhaps change or increase tornado wind speeds, etc, etc, not just warmer weather.

What is certain is things are changing because of our own actions, but what is uncertain, is what exactly will change and the severity with which it will; this unfortunately means it is difficult to access the economic damage it could cause, and this is why many governments are reluctant to act. The stern report that came out some time ago was one of the few to try and assess the economic damage of climate change, I read much of it, and it tended to group the possible economic damage with the likelihood of the various temperature rises, and percentage chance of it happening; this merely reflecting the uncertainty of the severity of what will happen.
I shall also question your 75% comment, for in doing so, it would likely makes things worse, certainly if done within Europe or the USA, to explain: the newly planted trees would absorb more sunlight, as the trees have dense and dark leave coverage, absorbing more light, more so than what the land would otherwise, and as such raise temperatures, a temperature increase that would not be countered by any carbon dioxide take up, my understand is limited, but I'm not sure if there is any or much net take up of CO2. This is not the case in the tropics however, as the extra sunlight there, allows there to be a relatively large carbon sink. So if indeed, planting trees would be your choice, it would need to be done in the tropics. It is really unfortunate that we are chopping down the rainforests, and perhaps this is instead what we should be tackling.
