Mandala's ANC party had a football team. This "football team" was actually a gang that beat and killed black south africans.

I vote Einstien
No, his (now ex-) wife had this so-called team.

Like you, I hate it when people start false rumours to besmirch the reputation of a truly great individual like Mandela.

YES! Einstein. I vote for Torvalds and Einstein. They're both the greatest
figure of the 20th century.

Mandella was a Terrorist, and head of the ANC. Much as i agree that he was a great man, he was the figurehead of a struggle in a country in transition. What outside of South Africa did he achieve ?

Oh, and truth is not a matter of opinion, the ANC definitely did have a death squad masquerading as a football team - that is niether false rumour, or a besmirchment.

brilliant...
i'm just a junior, but that's my senior quote

anyway...
can we define greatest?
there are different ways of being great
Hitler was great in the sense of being one of the (if not the) best public speakers of history, but few would go so far as to call that bastard a great man

The white minority government had an organization called the Vlakplaas. This was a secret police organization that carried out murders and masacres against the ANC and it's leaders.

One can hardly blame the ANC for having strong-arms of their own.

Washington had strong-arms. We called them the Continental Army.

Outside South Africa, what do Mandela do ? Has he helped in Sierra Leone, or Sudan, or even Zimbabwe ? He was a figure head for a localised movement, and spent 30 years in prison. I'm not saying he wasn't a great man, but there are better.
