He is only famous for the "hand of god".
Pele is who every one emulates. For my vote the ultimate footballer.🙂
Sorry guys, but you are omitting the real merit of the goal of Maradona. You are sinply remembering "the Hand of God", but you are omitting to mention the fabulous race that Diego started on the argentine field, and left literally freezed three or more defenders in his run, with dominated ball. The rest, is anecdote.
And previsible.

All this bullshxt about how good Maradonna was, the simple fact that he broke the rules to gain an advantage disqualifies him from the list.
Yes, I will admit he did score some good goals, he could get past other good players, dribble, shoot, and even taking into account all the other truly great and magnificent things that he could do, and did, all the re ...[text shortened]... by doing it.
He should have been put up against a wall and shot.

"Iglesia Maradoniana (English: Church of Maradona) is a parody religion created by fans of the Argentine football retired player Diego Maradona. It was founded on October 30 1990 (Maradona's 30th birthday) in the city of Rosario, and now reportedly counts 15,000 members.
Supporters of the Church of Maradona, supposedly from all parts of the world, count the years since Maradona's birth in 1960."
i dont know if anybody has mentioned ronaldo he is just a class act but like all other comparisions i still think you cannot compare different eras, maybe we could start another thread .
who was the greatest soccer player of the 50s , 60s ,70s ,80s ,90s and now today.
here is a few starters, im too young to pick a 50s player
60s - george best
70s - pele
80s - maradonna
90s - ronaldo
today - ?
then you could argue that the best player is the goalie cause if he doesnt let goals in or very few then the team doesnt loose in this case it could be peter smiechel (sic) of man united fame
