Honestly, I never could see what people liked about Richard Pryor.
likewise.

my ghost of the laughter past award goes to bill hicks as well, but I can't really name anyone present. dave chappelle is pretty mediocre in my book. okay, but mediocre. I like lewis black & eddie izzard a lot more, but I don't know, they're still not in the same league as bill hicks.

Dave Chappelle's "For What It's Worth" stand up DVD is one of the funniest I've ever seen. It's nothing like his TV show or Block Party movie, it's extremely clever, relevant and absolutely hysterical. If you haven't seen it, I recommend you rent it before you call him mediocre. In my opinion, he's one of the best out there right now.

But he's really a Jazzman, and he's quite laid back nowadays...

Seriously? I've never seen his standup, but that "Lucky Louie" show on HBO was LAME.

His stand up is incredible and a perfect summary of everything I find funny. A sitcom is no decent representation of anybody's stand up act, unless it's Home Improvement. (They're both garbage).

True on both counts. I'll have to check LCK out.

He has his own account on youtube. Check out the clips from his "Shameless" special. You might find them funny, you might not. I think he's hilarious though. Especially when he rails on about how much he hates his 4 year old daughter.
