Dave Chappelle's "For What It's Worth" stand up DVD is one of the funniest I've ever seen. It's nothing like his TV show or Block Party movie, it's extremely clever, relevant and absolutely hysterical. If you haven't seen it, I recommend you rent it before you call him mediocre. In my opinion, he's one of the best out there right now.
just saw "for what it's worth", and you were right. it's pretty damn funny.

Cool! I'm glad you liked it. Much better than the hit-and-miss show, in my opinion.

Rita Rutner and Paula Poundstone are both pretty funny too. And if you want to get serious, Brett Butler is really funny. Who says women don't get equal time in the forums?

Just for the hell of it, both greatest of all time and present - I'll tally the votes once the thread seems dead.

Ever: Richard Pryor

Present: Dave Chapelle - his routines on Comedy Central are hilarious, I'm convinced he's already one of the top 5 stand up comedians ever.
Billy Connolly for both.

I don't get Paula Poundstone either Shorty. I always found her as annoying as Bernhart.

And you don't seem to hear anything from either of these people latlely either.

Paula Poundstone is touring right now. Rita Rutner has a full time gig in Las Vegas at New York New York. She puts on a great show and has a fantastic memory. I never understood how Bernhart was even considered a comedien.

I've gotta go with carlin hands down. his sense of timing, repition, and wordplay are extraordinary (even if you look at it outside of the realm of merely stand-up).

Some of my other favorites though:
Stephen Lynch
Dane Cook
Dave Chapelle
Jim Gaffigan
Christopher Titus
