Don't be surprised when your wife says the same thing.

What is also always the same, is that people always try to criticise real talent in the hope of seeming superior.

Perhaps you should read my post again. I didn't criticize the author. In fact, I said,

"I will grant you that the retelling of this story is well done but its SUCESSS speaks more to society's lack of historical reference than it does to anything specific to the author."

In other words, for those of us without a compass to find the point, JK tells a good story but the financial success of the books is due mostly to the fact that it is new. If you don't see these books as a retelling of old stories then we should part ways.

LOTR, Narnia, etc. If you haven't read these, then ya ok, Harry Potter will hold your interest. But how many stories involving wizards and evil spirits can you read before you get bored?

Thats my two pence, but its all down to personal opinion really...
Yes, those are good examples too.

I guess one's opinion is framed by which books one reads first.

Thankfully, we have posts like yours to make the forum a better place....

Anyway, I think HP are excellent books with interesting and complex characters. I liked the 7th one best...well, except for maybe the crappylogue...it sounded like an ending to a bad fanfiction or something.

I can't wait for the 8th book that will come out a few years after the 7th movie is made. All the fans debating whether or not she sold out after saying it was her last book, all the talk about her doing it for the money and some fans just happy she wrote another book.

I wonder what will happen next!
