i believe you. yes something happened to my ego too. i had an explosion in the brain (near the hippocampus region.) and my ego ran away to my back. i've tried to get my ego back but its difficult.
do you think my explosion was a spiritual? ever since i had my explosion i just wanted to figure out why it happened and what i'm supposed to do...

Ego-death.
So there is "liberation" (losing complete fear of death), and "enlightenment" which is full knowledge of "God".
Once you pass "liberation" then you will never fall back. Snakes and ladders,the origonal indian game , is based on this premise
edit: I'm not sure what you mean by "ego-death" at this time, but I have had many ,many,many related experiences.
