Just signed up today and have been playing for the past few hours. Thought I'd just jump right in with a hello. Have been navigating through the site and the forums and such. Seems like a great place to widdle away the hours. Any friendly players out there that would like to share winning secrets feel free empower me with your vast knowledge of chess.

If you learn all that, study most of it... understand the majority of it... you will begin to win some fun games. The basics of chess are the most important, and from there you can get into the particulars.
Enjoy the site.

Originally posted by Pawn QweenIt was tough figuring out where to say my hellos. I didn't want to debate the fact that I was here as it would have been an uneventful debate. I didn't think that me being here was a rather spiritual revelation either so I opted out of that option. I thought maybe site announcements until I quickly realised that wasn't what I was going for either. After much wander lust I settled on making a general introduction. After, of course, I tried to solicit some sound chess playing advice in the chess forum. 😀
Hi Dude, and welcome to what's known as the General Forum 🙂
It's easy to see how many hours can be piddled away here. This site has a great deal to offer users. Glad I stumbled across it.

Originally posted by PhlabibitThanks dude. I googled, and found, a few sites that appear to be for fresh starts like myself. Can always use another good tutorial. I know the very basic moves but from what I've seen so far here today there's much more to chess that I thought. Should be fun to learn. I'm expecting now that people know I'm a bit green at this I'll be pegged as an easy win.

dont worry about being pegged as an easy win. there are many players of different levels here and you will find others of a similar rating to play a good game against.
Originally posted by MCAHey thanks. I'm already starting to see where a 6 game limit is a bit frustrating. I've already deleted a bunch of started games in favour of taking on more quick movers. I was a bit disapointed to get my first win by a resignation though. Looking foreward to my first kill.

Been reading up on some real interesting chess sites between moves and learning as I go. Thanks for the welcomes everyone.
Happy games

Be sure to understand castle rules, en passant, and stalemate. They should all be covered by the page I linked. Many users will be surprise by these situations, and claim there is a chess bug at RHP. If you understand them, you can avoid some embarrassing situations
Here is a game where it got timed out.
Game 3414121
I hope the game was not timed out because someone didn't understand the rule en passant, not sure...
Another thing to keep in mind is that talking (posting) about a game in progress is against the rules here. You might even ask a general knowledge question about a position and if someone finds you are playing a game like that they will frown. Any game you have going on is yours alone. You can't even ask if you have a chance at all in a game. It is up to you to decide if you can win.
Well, that was another clump of basics for you.

Originally posted by PhlabibitThose are about the basic moves that I know. I played many many years ago in my 20's. Never in any tournaments or anything just to avoid studying if I recall correctly. I'm surprised to learn that I remember as much as I do. Good to know about the games in progress thing. Thanks for the heads up.

Edit - Dang! You sound like you know more than you pretended. Might not be my speed after all... 😕
Edit 2 - "The Return" - Should have read the whole thread before posting...
Edit 3 - I forgot a hyphen in edit 2. Then I put an extra one in for good measure...
