I'm considering buying a traditional stereo receiver for my Father for Christmas. I'll probably get my brother to chip in for it. I need something that has a built-in amplifier/AM-FM radio and that you can hook up to a CD player, cassette player, turntable and (important) the TV and/or DVD player for a "home theater" thing. I'd also like something that's compatible with wireless speakers.
It's been a while since I bought any serious stereo equipment. Any recommendations?

anyway... try whathifi http://whathifi.com/ for a general guide to what you should be looking at and price in £sterling (which you'll need to convert to $). Be aware though that they might not feature / might not rate some brands as it's all about advertising and money (rumour I was told by a true hi-fi nut).
Some amps don't have good phono in for turntable now, so you might need to source an additional turntable pre-amp like this one http://www.hifix.co.uk/sku.lasso?item=db8c5a715233a03ea3789392d7c70cbf504fa6af08b23501 to sit between the deck and the amp.

There are some Denons and Arcams worth looking at but how much do you have in mind? I can find you something really nice for about £20K.
