I read all of Ian Fleming's original Bond series, along with several of Alistair Maclean's novels. I also read The Eiger Sanction (and yes, the book is better than the movie) and if this Shibumi is anything like that was, then this would be a good recommendation.
You'll enjoy it.

Thanks for all the recs, final list for my holiday which starts tomorrow is:

The Time Machine - HG Wells

Lucifer's Hammer - Larry Niven (thanks to Andy)

Timescale - Gregory Benfold

I Am Legend - Richard Matheson (thanks to Palynka)

I shall also take my dog-eared paper copies of Asimov shorts Caves of Steel and Naked Sun along with the Art of War by Sun Tzu (abridged for sales people).

Darvlay I looked at your rec and initially thought it interesting until I realised you were being a flange.

It is sci-fi with a very attractive handling of personality shifts across time.

dive, enjoy yourselves immensely. At a point in the future you may look back upon this adventure as having happened in "the good old days" which you may be trying to get back to. Have a memorable time and Godspeed on your safe return.
