But as to approaching and asking out this girl, nothin' to it but to do it. Read up on her interests like someone said, talk to her about them, throw in a cute joke here and there, maybe tell her something nice about her eyes, and then WHAMO!! when she's smiling and feeling great, tell her you have to run but you'd really like to see her again...maybe coffee? Maybe a movie? Whatever. If she says "yes", great! Even if she says "no", she'll probably be thinking "...why did I say no? this guy likes Radiohead, making me laugh, and my eyes...".
Whatever the result, just get up, say your goodbyes, and leave casually. If everything goes according to plan, she'll be waiting with baited breath for your next encounter. And then WHAMO!! you just...ah, but that's another story...

First - ask around. Try to find out anything about her that you can. Figure out what she's into, and then study up on a few of those topics. Then keep an eye on her. Wait until she's alone and her attention is on one of those things - like maybe she's looking at a poster of one of the bands she likes, or is reading a book for pleasure by her favorite ...[text shortened]... that you've been asking about her, but that's ok, because she'll be impressed by it.
