Your brother shot her because her eye had been gouged out? Has he never heard of a vet?
And why didn't you take her to the vet to have her put down afterwards? Hell, maybe she would have got better with surgery and medical attention?
Also, why in the hell didn't your brother try to find a home for the cat first instead of his first reaction being to shoot her?
Originally posted by stockenOh, that's frickin insane... You can't demand to have a cat put down for fighting another cat, can you? I think you should put your brother down for severe inanity.
My brother in law tried to shoot her because the neighbours wanted her dead after she had wounded their cat's eye.
I shot her because I couldn't afford the vet and she was too badly injured to survive without help from a professional vet.

You entrusted him to look after your cat and he betrayed that trust by shooting your cat.
What an a-hole.
In all fairness I should point out that my brother in law tried to find someone else willing to take care of skorpan before attempting to kill her. I just wished he had called me and told me about it beforehand so I could have tried to find new owners. That one really hurt. That he wouldn't tell me about it first, but just decided to do it. He said he knew how sensitive I am about these things and that I would never agree it was the best thing to do. He was right about that one, though. I wouldn't have agreed.
Thanks for the reactions people. It makes me feel a little better.
Originally posted by stockenOf course you wouldn't have agreed. No sane person would have. The reason why the neighbours wanted her dead was completely ridiculous. Your brother in law should never have complied with that request. If he didn't want to get into more trouble with those neighbours, he could have kept her inside until he had found a new home for her, which I am sure would have been possible if he had tried a bit longer.

I am very sorry about your loss. :'( I don't know if what you did was the best possible solution, but it was the best possible decision you could see at that moment, and it was made out of compassion. It's the things which led to that situation which were clearly wrong, and those are not your fault.

I felt like sharing this with you, because... well, I'd like to bring you all down with me.
Just last night, I saw a cat strawling about in the vicinity of my appartment. I live on the ground floor with horribly colored walls and one cracked window. Wind is part of my daily environment. There is a constant draft through my small appartment from the window ...[text shortened]... I'll just tell the story like it is and let you pass your own judgement on me.
