Yes, I'm familiar with the use of quotation marks. I wasn't aware that using them made it OK to use otherwise forbidden words. Thanks for clarifying that.

I give up. Those were hypothetical scenarios. No "claims" were made.

Don't worry man, rather just go back to believing it's a CONSPIRACY!
Rather than ducking the issue, or giving hypothetical scenarios but then claiming they don't apply, why not just explain it? What is the magical distinction? Is it the quotation marks?

Wrong about arguing in favor of banning someone because you disagree with them.

Wrong about arguing against the use of racial epithets, accept when they are useful to the argument that you want to make.

Wrong about using personal insults as a substitute for your failed arguments.
You can attempt to construct a logical argument defending racism, but in the end all you have is an argument defending racism.

for future reference...if i started a thread saying israel should be wiped of the map would the thread be removed?

sure it might offend some people but i would be arguing the fact that all israelis are loud, selfish jackasses and it's an illegal country anyway.

been thinking of starting that for a while after meeting a lot of them traveling but haven't got around to it yet...will it just be deleted?
I certainly hope so.

This is precedented in the past where users wish destruction on a nation or people. If it is alerted, or if a mod sees it... it is removed with a warning.

If the user was warned before, they are probably on the way to a ban. If they were banned before, and do it again... chances are they are on their way to long term bans and an admin might step in and remove all RHP rights.

So I can't say that Kosovo or South Ossetia shouldn't be nations?

Or if I can say that, why can't I say Israel [i.e. the Zionist state that controls virtually all of pre-1948 Palestine) shouldn't be a nation?

This is stuff from debates I'd let another mod touch on. I'm just saying if someone says "everyone in (----) should be killed" or "(---) should be turned into a sheet of glass"

Those things are removed.

If you want it destroyed, people dieing... that may be bad. If you believe it shouldn't be a nation, that might fly. I don't know... I don't touch Debates unless something REALLY STINKS IT UP and stands out in the mod logs.

But can you ban racism without also trampling free speech and stifling open debate? It certainly appears not. It's always going to be subjective and as such, whoever wields this power will invariably use it to promote their own beliefs.

Virtually all countries impose limitations to "freedom of speech", if defined in the naive "anything goes" vision you promote.

I'm a big fan of freedom of speech.

for instance, I am offended that I cannot question the mods or attack "cyber bullying" without getting banned.

I believe that certain extremist groups should be allowed to hold their rallies.
however, there are limits to free speech.

Both what can be said and where it can be said.

I think in this case, both questions come into play.

I believe most users don't want a foum where anyone can say anything anywhere at anytime.

So, now we are on a slippery slope. What can be said, where, when, and how?

I don't think there is a bright line out there, but most of us would agree that blatant racial and ethnic slurs are outside of that line.
