Regarding the tune by The Tuss, I'd like to see you try to do something like that on rebirth in under a year 🙂 Now theres a challenge.
And rb, if you can find me something from the 80's that sounds even remotely like that, let me know!
Granted though it is a acidy/synth sound that was pretty popular in the early 90's though there ain't many people who can ...[text shortened]... p for it are we can agree on a simple enough 4x4 song we can then take it from there...
Would relish the challenge if someone wants to name the tune for us to begin with - chat more on Weds.
With apologies - I've not yet located your tunes, so they're not on my mp3 - I'll get them now and onto my mp3 so I can listen on train on Weds.
A couple more general points to explain my chune choices:
Track 2 - this tune contains a small sample of Barrington Levy at 1m10s (edit apols - it's Shabba Ranks, but it still starts the Reggae theme early). I'm pretty sure this track also beat matches almost spot on with Track 3, Barrington Levy - I'll try mixing them on Ableton and post it if it works.
Abdominals track is from "Escape from the Pigeon Hole" Dj Fresh's from "Escape from Planet Monday". I'm in the process of doing this!
RB spotted the link between CO and OOberman on the "Home" theme.
Track 6 - I wanted something Jazzy to follow "all that Jazz", on reflection I think a Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone, or James Brown track would've worked better to play on track 5's lyrics.
Whilst it still sort of flows from 11-15 I'm not sure I got it right, it's rushed. Track 13 EIUC is too long for a mixtape IMO at 7mins.
I really wanted to shoe horn Eleanor Rigby in there, but was at first hoping it to be a loop mix - so the first and last tunes would be Reggae. The first draft had the first 4 tracks in the order 3,4,1,2 as they now appear, but as I added more tracks I had to cange the order.
I think it's important to make the list flow, although in this context of showcasing artists amongst buddies it's not necessary - if given as a gift (hence my very early comment about being able to burn to cd and post out) it would have been moreso. I'm quite obsessive about getting it spot on in that case - the version that's in my car has too long gaps between songs, I wouldn't post that out to anyone, I'd re-do it.
Hope we can get some themed ones going... any more interest?

Cheers, again - Few comments!
Tracks 5 & 6 - fresh was part of Bad Company - so not far from Shy FX in the music family tree. These two tracks are the pick off Escape from Planet Monday...
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NnZ08zHwrj4 Which one's your buddy?!
Track 8 - not sure what RB thinks, but IMO her best work has been with Zero7 on the Simple Things ...[text shortened]... rack 12 - that's a film worth watching. Preferably just after Ghandi. Kingsley is awesome.
I didn't realise that Sia was the lead singer from Zero7. Never really got into This Garden, but loved their earlier stuff.

Originally posted by rhbYeah, but I'd be a little hesitant to make the theme too specific. For example, if you said "covers", one or more people might not have lots of good stuff in that area, so they'd be forced to either not participate, or post second-rate tunes.

I'd prefer something that gave people a little more flexibility. Maybe "music to suit a particular mood/activity". You name your own mood/activity and build a mix around it.
My mix is nearly complete. It clocks in at about 30 minutes and has a recurring theme that I think you will all enjoy. Although I must warn you folks, the mix will be very guitar based as I have been listening to a ton of british invasion, punk and garage lately but the mix is still heavy on groove and is definitely more of a tail shaker than a head banger.
The mix is entitled: Namedropping or The Secret Is More Roll Than Rock
Uploading should be happening tonight.
