If you have music on your computer that you have downloaded from whatever source just open iTunes and click on the File tab at the top left. From the dropdown menu click on Add Folder to Library. Select the folder that your music is in and and hit enter. This will add your downloaded music to your iTunes library and then you can drag and drop it on to yo ...[text shortened]... pAfee. AVG or Avast are decent free virus protection. If you have $40 to spend get Kaspersky AV.
Well, my iPod has worked fantastically so far, although I did have to figure out how to get everything on to iTunes, then on to my iPod, and then how to get the crap I don't want off of my iPod. But I think I've figured quite a bit of that out.
About the question "Is it doing this because I haven't charged it yet?"
Probably not, but that wouldn't help, if you looked at the tiny manual that came with it you'd notice it tells you it's best to charge it before using it for the first time.

so i should get a cd burner?
Edit: so that i can get my limewire onto cds
if you use the (free) iTunes software with your iPod, you should be able to scan your HD for music and import them into your iPod, so don't worry about burning them to CD so you can then import from CD... lol...
of course this assumes that iTunes recognizes the file format of the music you already have...
I don't understand why my iPod stopped working 6 months ago. It's a piece of crap, as far as I can tell, but that doesn't help with the understanding bit. To add insult to injury, I can't just return my iPod to the Apple Store where I bought it from...no, no! I have to make an appointment with an "Apple iPod Specialist" (i.e. a 22-year old psychology major working for beer money) so they can hit it with a monkey wrench before they give me a new one. Red tape like this makes me want to fart. ðŸ˜

I won't say it's the best, because I would smash mine except it costs more than my one suit, but it was the must-have item that broke all the parents' piggy banks.
I just wanted to add that I really don't know what in the heck you all are talking about. But I'll read along and hopefully something will hit home. Is an Ipod the same as an MP3 player?
