Ireland meet up?

Late September in Dublin is grotesquely unfair to Cork people. By the looks of things, we'll have to go to Croke Park on two separate weekends in September as it is. Up the rebels!

I'm probably moving to London mid-august so probably won't be able to make it to a meet this Sept unfortunatly..

Might be back that weekend tho, u never know.

No date has been set as yet, I am only working with possibles at the moment, hell I don't even live in Dublin so I imagine it won't even be me organising anything. I just thought it would be a good idea and someone needed to push it! I think that as soon as we get a bit more interest i'll ask russ for a vote or we could have one in this thread.

Ta to Cadwah for telling about this thread. A good idea and something I'd deffo be inta. I live in Wexford so Dublin not too far either. And Sept is general good availability wise too.

Do any of ye actually enter Chess Tournaments - Galway is usually early October (though it's not yet advertised on ICU site) and Limerick is on end of October. I started going February 2005 and been to 5 now. Lots of drink etc and chess at them with added bonus of all organisation actually done for us. All we have to do is get accomadation and enter tournament. Just a thought...

I've only ever played 6 people OTB, and that was years ago, but i suppose the beer works for me. I wouldn't want to be out of my deapth, but i'm up for a laugh.

So, if its Dublin, who is organising it?

maybe we should get a vote done quick, how do we make sure the vote isn't scuppered by people not from Ireland?

Ok here we go folks, I am doing this incredibly hungover so please forgive any glaring errors. I am assuming that it will be best to meet up on a Saturday to give people chance to travel back home on Sunday for work on Monday. (post here if you disagree)

Below are the dates around the end of September -

Sept 16th
Sept 23rd
Sept 30th
Oct 7th
Oct 14th

I would like everone to vote for their preferred choice, Their second choice and I would like everyone who votes to advise of any dates where they definitely cannot make it. It may be the case that we can get more people at the second favourite date and the more the merrier. Please be prompt with your replies. I will collate the information on Monday 7th August, that gives you all 2 weeks.

I look forward to playing you all.

I'd be up for that, as I'm pretty available 🙂. However since I'm a student about to begin life as an impoverished barrister, I might have to sneak the cans of dutch gold in past the bouncers! 🙂

Sept 30th would be best for me.

I have a room in a house in D24, but i have a sofa, and there's a spare room (loft conversion) that i'm sure the landlord will let me use.So , depending on the comfort preference of thos involved, i could house a few. Sleeping bags, and advanced notice required.

One thing worth mentioning. Carrying a chess board around Dublin city on a Saturday night is not going to increase your attractiveness to women. . . .and might lessen your chance of getting into some pubs and clubs.

Just thought it was worth mentioning. 🙂

I'm flexible to be fair. I guess Dublin is likely to get a better turn out for logistical reasons.
