is chess more than a game?

I've recently had some health issues that were a concern(I'm fine now), but it occured to me that I devote alot of my time to playing chess. It brings me to my point: is chess more than a game? Is it healthy to be spending 4+ hours a day playing or thinking about chess? Why is this game so intriguing?

I think you should spend more time playing it, get that rating passed 1700.

NO it's NOT healthy! 😀

only 4 hours over all? it's not that much... last 1½ years I've spent about that on tactics alone, then there's the playing & general fooling around with chess related stuff...

just gimme my fix!

You stole my line, but I'm glad someone knows the definition of sport.

Well, I've decided that in my opinion when someone is passionate about something it makes sense that they would enjoy spending a lot of time doing it. I think there's nothing wrong with that, as long as it's not negatively affecting their health. As for why this game is so intriguing, it sort of depends on the person, and for me it may forever be unclear, which is fine.
