What is the point of life?
Before replying to this post, think about it.
Honestly, it is very hard to come up with one!
If you can come up with an answer, I will not end mine.

to find out who you are and what you can do. You are the only person who can live your life so thats the point. Given the alternative, life is good since death never gets any better!

Thats the problem!
How do we KNOW for sure, without a doubt, that death isn't better?
Its not like we've been dead and would know!
For all we know, there will be a great afterlife!
The Christians could be right, there may be a heaven.
We have no true way of knowing.

True, you have no way of knowing. I personally do not believe in the afterlife, and do not beive in any form of divinity. I am an animal like any other, and when I die I have the same prospects as any other animal, I sink back into the food chain. Also, as I have no religious faiths I see no reason why life must be fair, for life to be fair it implies that someone has control over outcomes to ensure everyone gets a fair crack of the whip. Life is what you get delt so deal with it or move on.

Personally, if life was that bad I would just move on somewhere new and start again. People create pressures on theselves when they fail to cope with the environment they find themselves in, if you move to a different environment you may find yourself becoming a totally different person. So if lifes bad try something different.

The world has too much to offer to miss out on it, you can worry about whether there is an afterlife or not when you die naturally, coz that is going to happen one day whether you want that or not!!

In your opinoin, what happens after we die, then? No one lives forever. Do we just close our eyes and lay on our backs for the rest of eternity. This makes no sense to me! You must do something after you die! If the God of Moses truly did create us, then He wouldn't be so cruel as to put us in a place of void for all eternity!! He created us, why would he destroy us?

Obviously you have never read the Hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy. It was kind of a joke as I thought this thread was becoming too despresing but now, as I think it was maybe innappropiate, I will leave.

I partially believe that the point to life is to enjoy it. If on average you are happy more than unhappy then you're doing OK. I have found however that searching for a meaning is quite likely to make you unhappy, or maybe it is that people who are searching for a meaning are doing so because they are unhappy, or a vicous circle between the two.

If you're serious about suicide can I recommend the people at 08457 909090 or you can e-mail them on "jo@samaritans.org" (they try to answer within 24 hours). If you want to look their web site is "www.samaritans.org.uk". As with any organisation, how helpful they are can depend on the individual you talk to, but they can be very helpful. I speak from experience.

I do love to read and write- but do not waist my time with idiotic pieces of paper. I stick to the true classics and some modern day- but few. You may keep posting in this thread- but do not make pointless and off-topic posts, it doesn't help.

I suppose I agree with your outlook. I will have a talk with someone through this organization that you talk about. Thank you for informing me.

I think we just rot. Sorry, but I think humanity has no greater purpose or meaning than any other animal. A brain works due to electrical impulses, unless those impluses are maintained artificially when you die the power is switched off and that is that.

Thats why life is for the living, coz once it is over, it is over.

I believe after we die we get sent to Earth again as a differrent person. We are on Earth to learn, we only realised what we are meant to learn once we have learnt it. Once we have finished learning we go to a place like Heaven.

You are only 14. I am now twice that age plus some. I still don't know "The Point" of life, but when I was younger I think I used to think a lot like you may be thinking. Now I am very happy with my life, though I still don't know the point.

Hang in there, in another 10 years or so you may get over your depression, or fascination with death... and you'll be glad you are still around. I sure am.
