So the kid should get his sentence reduced if his parents as good as placed the gun in his hands? As it currently stands I think he’s to be detained forever.

Is this the first time a prosecuting attorney has ever ‘thought’ of asking how an under age kid got hold of a gun? Good for her I say. So there could be a number of appeals coming up by under age, imprisoned shooters.
It does at least address the issue that gun violence in America cannot continue to be attributed to single outlier individuals; it's a collective social menace which must be dealt with collectively.

That’s what I thought.

We recently had an unusual situation here in the UK whereby the mother of a murdered girl initiated meeting with the mother of one of the two youngsters who killed her daughter. She said that they were both parents who had each lost a child.
True, but in that case the perpetrators weren't known to be unhinged, and the parents didn't buy the murder weapon.

Strange isn’t it? Everyone is expected to take driving lessons and then a test before they take a car on the road unsupervised. I wonder what safeguards exist to check upon potential gun owners?
There are thousands of laws, Drewnogal, but people still can get their hands on a gun.

How Many Gun Laws In The Us? - Law info
There are 20,000 different firearms laws now in effect. The National Rifle Association and other pro-gun organizations have frequently touted the 20,000 gun laws that currently exist on the books as reasons why stronger enforcement, rather than additional legislation, is the answer to the problem of gun violence

I found this video on the Sandy Hook Promise website. We’re asked to share it of we want to help reduce gun violence in schools so here it is. You may want to watch it a second time. I’m wondering if anyone here has ever seen it? It’s had over 14 million views in 7 years.

"It takes a village to raise a child." When a child is lost to criminality, the village has failed by neglecting the signs.

School based, counsellor support for kids is vital. I recall a brilliant woman who provided a very informal way whereby kids could refer themselves or even just knock her door if she was free. Her door was in a busy thoroughfare area so easy to unobtrusively access at break times. She offered them a cuppa and let them chat in a very informal way. She was highly experienced so well aware of when she needed to make a referral to the mental health / social services depts. Quite often things can be resolved at an informal level before it snowballs into something more serious.

When she retired she wasn’t replaced. Big mistake! Today I see that the school counselling services in Wales are again being taken more seriously as it eases the load upon the current crippled child & adolescent mental health services.

So right, it is the early efforts that are crucial. Some families can't cope on their own, my family was one of them. We were well aware what had to be done at the time, and it took all of our time and energy to get there, with the help of social assistance - without it, it wouldn't be possible. We are very grateful today.

There will always be those who say guns don't kill people. It is the people who use them that kill people. It is way too easy for someone to get a gun if they really want one and want to hurt people. They can be obtained for as little as 50.00 Canadian dollars and have more than likely been involved in other killings. I don't know if there is actually away to control them, from being sold.

Correct.

So, new laws that actually require punishment for infraction, ARE needed.

Let's see them kill people with, say, a rubber band.

The gun is intrinsic in the deaths. They make killing too easy.

And there are still demented gun fanatics who claim that the shootings in Sandy Hook were faked. Thanks for nothing, Alex Jones.

According to a recent youtube video we were treated to, it would seem that if rubber bands can kill, we need to regulate cat training restrictions.

As mentioned in another thread here in the GF, one of my kids turns 34 today and in a “cat vein” she is a Vet.πŸ‘

Coincidentally, Sandy Hook was on the news the other day. But it was not about gun control. It was about conspiracy theories control.

Kids idolizing professional sport figures is not all fun and games.

In a CNN story Wednesday, reporter Pamela Brown described an interaction she had with Rodgers in 2013, in which he falsely claimed that the Sandy Hook attack ― which left 20 children and six adults dead ― was orchestrated by the government.
