I expect most people will be too young (or too foreign) to have heard of this 60s English band, but I saw them playing tonight and they were pretty good, I have to say.

Are there any others of you who had heard of them before?

Yes!! That was my favourite song they played tonight, they did a really great rendition of it - unfortunately it seems to have been a unique performance as I have not been able to locate a similar sounding one on you tube.

This is the closest I have got.

Blinded by the Light!

Tho the Boss does a better cover of it.

Did they roll out on stage in wheelchairs and walkers?

Mannfred Mann's Earth Band seems to ring a bell, but I may be confused.

There are two manfred bands around from what I know.
Manfred Mann himself split with the main group back in the 60s(or maybe 70s) and formed a new group called Manfred Manns Earth Band.

The original members reformed in the 90s sometime and play now as the manfreds - this was who I went to see tonight.

I think both groups play the same original songs, but have altered them in some way to make a unique sound.

It was quite funny actually, it was part of a rock and comedy show and the host (Jasper Carrott) made a joke about their age.

I remember their song 'blinded by the light' in fact I am going to YouTube now to listen to it, I hope it doesn't sound too dated now.

Edit: It's playing now, considering how old it is I still think it sounds good (at leat to me, although I have to say my taste has moved on from then). Here's the link if anyone wants to listen to it:

Blinded by the light is brilliant.

I also like "Davey's hit the road again" or something like that.

Yes, from their 'pop' days, to their experimental jazz / blues to their Earth Band - saw the latter in the 70s. Solar Fire their best. 'Pop' hits entertaining.

Mighty Quinn, of course, hit the terraces!

Is it possible to still get their 'Chapter' albums? I'd like to hear them.

I know they absolutely raped "Blinded by the light" by Springsteen.

Unfortunately, you didn't see Manfred Mann!

Check out Solar Fire.
