Every animated movie aimed at over 10s, which Disney have made in the last 30 years ... has been utter trash.
- The Fox and the Hound
- The Great Mouse Detective
- The Rescuers Down Under
- Beauty and the Beast
- Aladdin
- Tarzan
I agree that the rest not listed above is utter trash (Emperor, Mulan, Hercules, etc.). However, the ones listed above have very strong contributions in terms of art and storytelling. Maybe none of them combines all the great elements of the past in a single production, but they have bits of the old Disney magic which cannot be found, unfortunately, in the non listed.

Originally posted by Seitse30yrs was an estimate, but to deal more directly, Rescuers Down Under is bleh, as is Tarzan. Aladdin's average, but lacks an original story basis. B&TB is okay for sentimental overkill, if you like that sort of thing. Fox and Hound was good, but aimed predominately at under 10s I think.

However, what these all include is Disney's podgy, clammy hand prints all over them, they're predominently simplistic, stylistically dull and all portray a sickly sweet approach to capturing life which undermines the very notion I think most poignant for animation, which is to open up a window onto real life so as to detail things we miss in our everyday experience of it.

Eric Daniels, who was responsible for the work of Tarzan's "surf on the trees", did what is in my opinion the last great piece of art by Disney.

Far from defending Disney here, though. It's just that putting Tarzan and Beauty and the Beast in the same sac as Hercules and the Emperor's groove is quite... like... OMG!1~
As said, I concur that none of them from Rescuers Down Under forward has it all, as Dumbo or Snow White or Bambi had it... even the more bleh of the classical ones had it, The Rescuers, which despite the lack of bombastic performance compared to the previous ones has a simply majestically animated Rufus by Ollie Johnston and that's worth for its weight gram by gram.
Originally posted by SeitseExactly my point, a great piece of 3D, but an exercise in technical prowess, not story telling or art. Bit like the difference between Steve Vai and say Seasick Steve.

Say what? Spiderman, Xmen, Avengers, etc. etc. were a huge part of my childhood. I didn't even look at a DC comic until Dark Knight Returns. Or are you speaking in the short term?
Marvel invented the crossover and brought an edge to mainstream comics in the 70s.
And what did you think of the Watchmen?
