All quiet in Hungary. The Whitespear Legion waited in Venice for reinforcements this year. King Phil's boys in Tuscany have fled to Rome leaving a no-man's land.

What do I care? All I want is the hat-making industry. We grow plenty of food back home.

Very often in this game, Italy has been able to defend provinces without actually putting troops in them. Call it our fiercesome rep or simple cowardice or incompetence on our enemy's part, but even when they have a large advantage they're often too scared to move.

And Bavaria if you want to finish off the Army of Venice you'll either have to send: 1) Someone else or 2) A lot more than 10 Archers. It's looks like Aragon will have to take Savoy for ya; if you send that pitiful army in Saluzzo against the Army of Venice without the Poles or somebody else to take the losses, you'll get slaughtered. And remember BDN that the Bavarians don't put their troops in rank 1 or 2 if they have somebody else they can sucker in to bleed for them.

Anyone want to give the popcorn gallery a rundown of provinces changing hands, seeing how the maps may not be updated?

I warn you, we're now armed with blood sausage, and I hear Nordlys has a good arm.

Nothing changed hands with respect to Hungary. The Horde took the port city on the north side of Asia Minor...

Bavaria captured Prussia with the bulk of the Teutons remaining forces defending. My staunch ally and friend the Duke of Saxony sent a small contingent of troops in reserve, however, they were not needed and none were lost in the battle.

Novgorod pulled a suprising move and sent all of her remaining forces at Riga and was victorious. The Teutons are no more.

Neither will Novgorod for long; they have hardly any troops left and Horde forces have moved into their territory to "assist" them (like they "assisted" Lithuania).

This week's Power Ratings:

2. Saxony 4
3. Morocco 1
4. Aragon 3
5. Bavaria 5
6. Acquitaine 8
7. Sicily 6
8. Castile 7
9. Hungary 9
10. Norway 11
11. Novgorod 15
12. Byzantine 14
13. Venice 10
14. Mamulukes 13
15. Roum 16
16. France 12
17. Hafsids 17
18. Poland 20

Eliminated: Arles, Lithuania, Teutons, Denmark, England

Although technically Denmark and England aren't eliminated (Denmark has provinces but no troops and England still has 2 carracks but no provinces) in reality they are done. Novgorod moved up because they took a 19 Gold province and have built up a sizeable navy, but they only have 224 Land CS left and the Horde is massing on their border. Aragon and Castile were willing to lose large masses of troops attacking the Frenchbot to get a 14 Gold province; good call. Acquitaine has sent a fleet down off Spain with no troops on board; it will be interesting to see what they do.

What knocked Sicily down?

Oh nm. I see Aquitaine just jumped past them. They take something good?

WOW - Look at Rob's Thessalonian Commander! 63 Cavalry skill!!!! As if Rob didn't already have the best cavalry. He doesn't seem to be disabled though. Why don't you call him Olympius the Retarded or something to keep things consistent, Rob?

I wonder if France will take vengeance on the Spaniards for this assault.

I thought Tuscany was called Tyrolia for some reason. That's what was up with the hat comment earlier...

Aragon took Rhaetia and Provence from Sicily; an act of extreme, treacherous cowardice as one was undefended and one had a single Crossbowmen. Your Bavarian buddy tried to join the fun; apparently not realizing that Aragon hadn't broken their alliance with Venice last turn he sent in 10 Archers to Rhaetia. The Army of Venice slaughtered them while a very small force stood in Savoy, right in front of KW's large army in Saluzzo and taunted them from the parapets. Another brilliant move from the feared Bavarian "commander".

You'll be much better off in the Tuscan property market. A classic design destined to be exported to the most unlikely places in centuries to come.

The assault on Bourbon by Aragon and Castile qualifies as a triumph by Spanish standards: the defences were overwhelmed despite the incompetence of the artillery drunks. El Gato's foot gave their lives valiantly, as infantrymen should, while his cavalry massacred the defenders in conjunction with the swashbuckling cavaliers of Rodrigo the Gloomy. Castile can be particularly pleased with his general's performance: not a single man lost! It helps when they're not in rank 1, doesn't it? (Swabia, oh, Swabia).

Casualties:

Garrison#22 ( at Bourbon)
2 Heavy Infantry, 13 Crossbowmen, 1 Light Cavalry,
14 French Knights, 4 Peasant Rabble, 4 Men-at-Arms

Castilian Army: 0

Bourbon Here We Come (Aragon) :
13 Peasant Rabble, 14 Archers, 7 Heavy Infantry

Now only Paris remains.

Sideshows: Rhaetia fell at the cost on 1 Heavy Infantry, although the mix-up in Bavarian orders was somewhat tragic; this is the third time Provence has changed hands without a battle taking place.

Many thanks to the King of Morocco for his gift of Egypt. May the Sun shine on all your endeavours.
