Yes its true, New world beers tend to be way more alcohol, but the porter was originally a drink for dock workers to drink with their lunch and return to work, not the 8/9 ABV and upwards that our American and Canadian cousins have turned it into. Man you just gotta pole vault the line, don't yah!
I have an American Imperial Pale Ale, its 8.2 % ABV has those beautiful citrus flavors of American hops, Simcoe, Willamette, Chinook and something else I forget.
