The reality is, they are competing sites. People flow back and forth from both all the time. But, because of the financial risks I undertake in keeping this site going, I naturally would prefer it to be one way and not the other. 🙂 I do not perceive closing a thread to be heavy handed in this instance.

I think Ragnorak is still having difficulty understanding that this is not a democracy.

Ragnorak: "I always think of it as a benevolent dictatorship."
What I might be having difficulty understanding now is whether it is a benevolent dictatorship or a plain aul despotic one.
D
i used to play there and here, then decided that i didn't like the way the site was being run (closing of the forums, only one user from each computer etc) so i quite. i started a game a while back there, but the interface is kinda slow and i kept on forgetting to move. plus, i'm a pawn star here. oh so much cheaper!

Your statement really relates to ragnorak's question even less then mine, so maybe you should try correcting yourself first.
By critising the closing of a thread Ragnorak is stepping up to have his say as though it mattered, as if he could really have any influence on the governence of this site, therefore he must in some way believe that a democratic process exists.
If you went into a kiteshop and stuck up posters advertising the other kiteshop across town what do you think would happen?
Ragnorak: you're trying to incite some sort of mob riot / consumer uprising over freedom of speech, therefore you're trying to do exactly what you protested of no1marauder.
Originally posted by hopscotchPeople are aware of both sites. The free exchange of information could only lead to a better understanding. Rhp is better then gameknot in almost all regards excepting one and that is conditional moves.

Your anology is wrong because dustn was'nt advertising for anyone to go and pay money at the other site, he was just mentioning it. He did'nt tell anyone to cancel their subscription here and transfer to gameknot. So no there was no poster in a window here.

Hmmm..
well I joined gameknot 2 days ago, and as far as I can see it's crap. I can't see any way of reviewing message logs, the main forum is closed, I can't send any PMs, instead only reply to ones sent to me, and the subscription is... well, either pricey or nonsense "privileges". Not that I was really considering subscribing there, I just checked out of interest. Only thing that's really better imho is that you can join features like the clans on rhp without subscribing. I haven't tried it though, and I'm not about to.
Ummm yeah that's my 2 cents.
Oh yeah, plus we have the wonderful clan forums here 😀
Originally posted by hopscotchWell, the thread is back. I doubt it would be back if Ragnorak hadn't said anything. The fact that this is not a democracy doesn't mean you shouldn't say if you dislike the decisions which are made, or that nothing will change if you do so.
