By critising the closing of a thread Ragnorak is stepping up to have his say as though it mattered, as if he could really have any influence on the governence of this site, therefore he must in some way believe that a democratic process exists.
If you went into a kiteshop and stuck up posters advertising the other kiteshop across town what ...[text shortened]... ver freedom of speech, therefore you're trying to do exactly what you protested of no1marauder.
I wasn't trying to incite anything. I was seeking clarification on site policy, as it seems to have changed recently. I never mentioned freedom of speech, or asked my fellow RHP customers to boycott.
Your kiteshop analogy is crap as well. This is a forum, where people talk. Your analogy would only work if some internet chess site posted adverts that the non-subs see.
Where's the old Hopscotch gone? He used to be fun. And intelligent.

Forums on an internet are friends talking. This is how we converse on this site.
I'm not in favor of everything that has happened in this site, but overall really enjoy it, even the more heated debates are challenging. So to stay, I must obey.
This may be a way for players to converse, and I did find it interesting about the point made in the other thread, but I can understand why you wouldn't want the competitions name posted as well. still surprized to see this thread still open.

In essencce mention of gameknot in itself is not bad, it's the fact that gameknot was mentioned in the thread title that was bad. That's the understanding I'm taking from it.

Originally posted by RagnorakLet's get the facts straight. You were publicly seeking clarification on site policy in the general forum of a chess site regarding the closing of a thread about another chess site. You stated that by having the thread in question closed it would be a regression into the dark ages of this site. If you are at all familiar with marketing then you would know that the bombardment of an individual with a name will eventually reach that individual on some level and if that individual has not had any experience with that the product behind the name then a certain curiosity will arise in that individual causing them to investigate the product in question to see why everyone is talking about it so much. That is advertising. If we used these forums to continue to discuss other chess sites then we are using RHP resources to advertise for other chess sites, and that is obviously what you fail to understand. By posting this thread publicly and using inciteful language such as your comparison to "the dark ages" it did have a ring of persuasiveness to it, if your point was to simply ask a question on site policy then you would not have had to resort to a qualification of your question, and furthermore, you should have posted your thread in the help forum. By posting it in the general forum you knew it would get a lot more attention, so your motivation, "seeking clarification on site policy" was bogus.
This is ridiculous.

Admittedly my kiteshop analogy wasn't entirely suited to the subject, perhaps no analogy could really correspond to this situation.
The "old hopscotch" has grown tired of everyone constantly criticising this site. There is a terribly stale air of negativity lately, I think that we have all forgotten what a privilege and a pleasure it is to have these forums, for without them and without the moderation of them I would not have had the opportunity to meet any of you bastards.
Your attempt to call my intelligence into question only shows your own tainted logic: just because you and I have differing opinions on this subject does not make either of us less intelligent, nor does it warrant an insult.
Originally posted by hopscotchNo, but your kiteshop analogy and your initial dig at my perception of the website did.

People who you would have had a laugh with before, are now jumping down your throat about the smallest thing. I've been through this before, when the original movement came about to introduce the Game Mods. I didn't plan on going through it twice.

Would Russ have closed the thread with Gameknot in the title IF there wasn't such an amount of disharmony and dissatisfaction with RHP at the moment, and possibly looking at other sites? I think not.
I used to love RHP. I greatly appreciate the work that Russ has done for us. But I no longer like the site, and the direction it has taken. This direction isn't entirely Russ' fault, as RHP's users are the ones who set out how they want it. Its just unfortunate that the loudest, most bullying members seem to be the ones shaping the site atm.

There are other chess sites?
Good grief! How many people actually play the bloody game?
EDIT: Actually, coming to think of it, if they have forums, then there's probably a whole world of chess TOSSERS out there, ripe for taking the piss outta!
Imagine, if you will, me on every single chess site on the internet! Spouting the same old drivel to EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING!!! There'd be no escaping me.
Oh hell yeah. I feel a master-plan-a-hatchin'....
