A guy also lost his life today, in Hull. Trapped down a manhole, even police underwater team couldn't save him.

Flooding isn't just caused by global warming.

Everyday in Britain 100 football fields worth of land is lost to development. Some of this land is reclaimed wet land. 100% of rainwater falling on a roof/road/car park runs off into stormdrains/rivers. About 80% of summer rain is absorbed by a sod roof.

Rainwater recycling is a must. Sustainable Urban Drainage is a huge step forward. At it's most basic, it's a permeable surface, with huge storage area just under the surface. The grey water collected can then be reused. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sustainable_urban_drainage_systems. Apparently for a big retailer to install a SUDS system, it wouldn't work out any more expensive than installing standard drainage.

More sod roofs, especially in urban buildings would help also. There are a number of other benefits to rooftop gardens.

I wonder if anyone has analysed the global impact of deforestation with regard to flooding and other water hazards.

Reply agreed with, and understood.
(I was being sarcastic in my earlier post, regards the glories of the British Summer ie when are we going to feel warm again etc.)
