When creating this thread, I was actually hoping to get some responses that included movies that were dark, disturbing and thought-provoking, with some artistic merit (many listed here).

Faces of Death was disturbing...particularly the monkey scene, but (IMO) not really worthy of any praise. I don't think the director's intent was anything more than shock value.
i had never seen it myself, being only 17 years old, and the series was outlawed a LONG time ago by my standards...
my father had only mentioned it in passing a while back, so I thought i'd try and see what you guys knew about it or if any had even seen it...

Let me know what you think of it. It's truly bizarre. Particularly the middle. I'm still not sure what to make of it.

Something like "The long sequences and the great actorblabla gave the film an increased realityblublub." Or: "The long sequences and the great performance of the actors gave the film an increased description of reality". An increased description? What the heck? But it sounds impressive! (Actually I didn't say anything at all about the length of the sequences, the performance of the actors or a description of reality. In fact I didn't say much at all.)

"Increased description of reality" sounds like a long winded "more realism".

Yes, that's what I think it's supposed to mean. But it's still nonsense; you can't increase a description. The sentence also suffers from substantiveritis. Instead of "... gave the film an increased description of reality", one could say something like "the film feels more realistic because of ..."
