Really? Every day of the year you spend out shooting some furry beasts... ...even on Christmas? Don't you ever grow tired of all that killing and feel like taking a day off?
So every night during the summer, i'm shooting gophers. I'm always shooting coyote's year round, as they run off the dear and other game which we need on the ranch for graze upkeep, and for hunting.
in the winter rabits and other varmints which can carry disease (and live) can pass their disease onto larger animals if their not cept in check, and on our ranch, we don't want our foul/bird population dwindling due to spread of certain virii. So during the winter, we kill varmits....
actually, varmit hunting takes place all year round, and big game is several times a year (by tag only) for food. I personall don't duck/foul/grouse/bird hunt very often, but my dad does.
Death is definitely nothing new to me.

We had been stopping to look at a dead coyote by the side of the road for a week. I have always encouraged my kids to observe the full circle of nature, to understand death as much as they can, and luckily, we are able to do that often here where we live. We have not raised our children with any religion or belief in God, as a side note here, just with the e credit goes to my boyfriend, because he knows I love skulls, and encouraged me to take it.
I have a friend who is a ceramicist I think you might like her work (http://www.anna-ceramics.co.uk/) Her fasination with bones and vampires has always fasinated me to be honest!
How do you feel about looking at parisites on living people? I'm curious.

i live in montana...and hunt at least some species of animal, every day of the year.
wether you believe in God or not doesn't matter, everybody should have experience with death. Especially taking a life. It will change your attitude about it forever, if you have to look into the eyes of something you killed, and then butcher it.
Its the disconnec ...[text shortened]... to hate each other so ignorantly, and treat each other so horribly.
thats just my 2 cents.
I don't think it's necessary for them to kill anything to experience death, though. On a ranch, I understand. Out here, nah. They are just kiddos.
Kindness is taught by example.

Not much will gross me out too much. Snakes, mostly.
