"Tom Lehrer, the popular song satirist who lampooned marriage, politics, racism and the Cold War, then largely abandoned his music career to return to teaching math at Harvard and other universities, has died. He was 97."
I tried to include a video "We all go together when we go", typical of him, but it wasn't available other than here perhaps. I try another one:

Sorry to hear of his passing. I knew Tom Lehrer in the 1970s, when he was a math professor at U.C. Santa Cruz. We used to talk about black holes over lunch in the cafeteria. He was a modest man, and, I think, a little embarrassed at his slightly celebrity status. He was a hit on the tv show 'That Was The Week That Was', which many think was a precursor to SNL, and of course, to people of a certain generation, many of his raucous tunes and lyrics were committed to memory. The Masochism Tango: "go put on your cleats and come and trample me...."

He seemed an extremely intelligent, talented and humorous man.

Sorry to hear that, he was a good guy outside these forums. Tough on the boys to lose both parents so close together.

Tom Lehrer was a straight-up genius.

If that is really so [it wouldn't be the first time], then my sympathies to those who knew him or had connections to him.

My sister-in-law puts it the other way: "Evil people live forever."

Yeah, it's true this time, and there are many who will miss his company, myself included, we became good friends away from RHP and the sometimes toxic and unforgiving forums....
