If I go to the gym and only work my upper body and neglect my legs, do you think anyone would notice?

you should work out your upper body, then do extensive running also

It kinda depends on how hard you work your upper body. Personally, I would definately advise against this unless you have an injury or something. But you could always find exercises that work lower that don't aggravate injuries, etc.

So why are you avoiding lower?

What he should do is buy a pair of steel toed boots and walk around with them all the time. It's cumbersome at first but you do get somewhat stronger in your legs.

do stuff that does both like deadlifts and powercleans to a push press....those burn more calories too.
