I have only played a few games on RHP...but I already notice a tendancy for many lower rated members to play all the way to mate - even when down an enormous amount of material. I can see this for a new player, perhaps someone rated <1000 but for a 1500 player to do it seems excessive.
It is not a big deal, of course, but it hits me as 'poor form' at the least. I don't suppose anything can be done about it, but curious if others have had this experience, find it a little annoying?

After all, they have no idea how deluded we are by arrogance and feelings of grandeur.
The only lost situation is when we give up on ourselves.

Originally posted by Desmond BaruchIt must be a big deal or you wouldn't have brought it up. Poor form is expecting your opponent to resign, rather than proving you have them beaten by mating them.

Nothing can be done about this, I don't care if people play the games out, if the win is coming my way it is coming my way whether today, tomorrow or in 10 weeks.
The only people this really affects is non subs as they have a limited number of games. To stop the issue bothering you pay the sub fee.

Excellent reply. Pay your £25.
After all, if it were not for you this site would not be around.
I touch on this in the latest Blog.

if SactheKing had resigned or imatager had pulled
the plug as Hyde Park did when he blunderd a piece on d4
in the same position, then these wee merry joys of creativity
would never have happened.
And anyway the game ends with checkmate, not when you think it should. 😉

Originally posted by Desmond BaruchThe best as I may have posted before is when you are playing someone who gets you into a forced mate and I resign. I've gotten messages saying, "Why did you quit? I was about to mate you! You scared coward"!

Trying to explain resignation to some chess players doesn't wash, they want to see the end. I try to explain HOW it would end and why I resigned but some want to see it in the game.

one thing to note though - the lower ranked players - many of them will make mistakes (I count myself in this group) while playing.....and many will play through to mate, in order that they make 100% sure that you are not going to make a mistake and gift the game back to them....
Personally I resign so I can concentrate on games i can still win, but everyone will have a different opinion.

It really boils down to king posn, pawn posn and numbers, and if it is knight vs bish + rook, or rook night bish vs bish knight et cetera et cetera.
I see no reason in not continuing, unless you yourself see that the game is complete, especially for lower rated players or vice versa - this is a never ending learning process!! End game practice is of paramount experience.

I have received several draws and stalemates when I have been down significantly in material. The hightest ranked player was over 2200 that was forced to a draw!
Sincerely,
