wat are the odds that Putin has Kasparov "knocked off" of the ballot?
Personally, I see no way he could risk it against such a national icon...
but, is it possible?
Kasparov'd just be turned into a martyr, which Putin can't afford.
And If Kasparov DOES run, don't you think Putin'd lose?

What effect would an alpha emitter with a half-life of 138.39 days have on Garry's rating?

I've been a fan of the Beast for decades now, but sometimes I wish he'd just pipe down, even if only for his own sake.

Surely Putin knows that if Kasparov were to die he'd either have open revolt in the streets of Moscow, or the UN/US/ All of Europe would be breathing down his neck!

Also, Kasparov has probably not been in a position to see the "alleged" video footage of Putin in a Michael-Jacksonesquely compromising position. Litvinenko made this allegation inter alia.

No offence dude, there's certainly truth in what you say, but if we all held the view that the loss of no one's life made a difference, that no stand was worth making....then really, what's the point?

The way I see it is that Putin wouldn't have to do much to knock Kasparov off anything. All he would have to do is accuse Kasparov of cheating and Kasparov martyrism would instantly vanish.

But Putin would have to worry about being told he was full of hot smelly air. It could be a good debate.

I actually like Kasparov and think he would be a great leader. Not just because he plays chess but because he shows a lot of class.
