This is the funniest joke I've heard yet.
The US leading the way for race relations!
I was surprised as well. Thierry Henry, for one, has suggested that he might like to play in the US to get away from the racisim.
South Africa obviously has a long history in this area.
And I'm reading that neo-Nazi groups are on the rise in many European countries, including Belgium, Denmark, France, and the Netherlands.
I've seen several people on this thread assert their "right" to use the N word. Only an outright Klansman would make that claim over here.

Originally posted by Red Nightthe neo-nazi groups are typically extremely small groups giving up ridiculously exaggerated total number members. typically there's a couple of insane adults leading the groups, and dozens of clueless teenagers wanting to be part of a group, any group. most of them grow up & wise up.

the silent grass-roots prejudice is a whole other story. it's usually caused by people not having any real contact to whatever group they have prejudice against. the basic fear of unknown. but it's the thing that causes missed job opportunities and other unfortunate real life incidents.
Originally posted by NordlysI do not see any claim to the US leading the way in stoping racism. Perhaps, you were inferring what he meant by his comments.

do you always do this?

I don't want and never intended to go so far as to laud the US and race relations.
However; if what I'm seeing on the forums and in the news is any indication, perhaps other countries are now beginning to go through some of the issues that the US wrestled with 20 and thirty years ago.
The use of the N word on this thread and the insistence on the right to do so came predominantly not from US residents but from other parts of the world.
I go to lots of sproting events here in the US. It is very rare for some one to shout a racial slur. Apparently this is a common, recurring problem for Thierry Henry. Sort of like it was for Jackie Robinson in the late 40's and early 50's and even Henry Aaron in the early 70's.

Originally posted by Red NightCareful Red Night. Nordlys is sacred territory for the protective men here like Huck and Catfood. You may end up with endless diarrhetic taunts. It was really fascinating to hear some of the folks from other countries claim a right to use the N word. I understand and even appreciate what they were trying to say, at the same time it set off alarms bells for a US resident. A real culture difference!
I have generally laid off of Nordlys because I sensed she had a problem. I have attempted to use the same kid glove approach with her that I use with the children and I will continue to do so. She rides me a lot, so it is difficult to just ignore her constant barbs. If you look through the threads you will notice that I've demonstrated remarkable restraint.

I am sure I sometimes read something into someone's post which that person didn't mean. Who doesn't? I certainly don't do it to the extent Red Night does. If you want, I can send you the PMs I sent to him, and you can compare them to what he said I said, as stated in a post in this thread. I found it quite fascinating.
