Rubbish, this is hardly a decent sample of the world views on anything, this is a chess forum and the general forum at that. Plus, what issues? Are you saying these issues are not issues anymore?
The use of the N word on this thread and the insistence on the right to do so came predominantly not from US residents but from other parts of the world.
Even if you did know exactly what part of the world each user comes from, it's probably because of the time difference, Europe was awake, a lot of the US wasn't, or they're at work. Americans can say nigger like anyone else.
I go to lots of sproting events here in the US. It is very rare for some one to shout a racial slur. Apparently this is a common, recurring problem for Thierry Henry. Sort of like it was for Jackie Robinson in the late 40's and early 50's and even Henry Aaron in the early 70's.
Football attracts thugs and hooligans, it's not the countries so much as the game. You don't get the same stuff in for example cricket.

I am sure I sometimes read something into someone's post which that person didn't mean. Who doesn't? I certainly don't do it to the extent Red Night does. It was really fascinating to hear some of the folks from other countries claim a right to use the N word. I understand and even appreciate what they were trying to say, at the same time it set off alarms bells for a US resident. A real culture difference!

American's, outside of the Klan, almost never say the N word. Some African-Americans use a variation of the word when talking to each other.
Note the use of the word "maybe"
You get racial slurs at football matches. The US really doesn't have the same problem at any of it's major sporting events. 20-50 years ago it was common and is almost unheard of here now.
So, yes, MAYBE the US is ahead of Europe on this issue. A lot of evidence seems to point in that direction.

Use of the word leads to immediate ostracization in most circles and outright violence in some.
We don't even use it when we say you can't use it. We say. you can't use the N word.
Now, that doesn't necessarily make us less racist. My remarks on that front were based largely on other items I've read, like the Henry story.
For instance, I read something about the burning of 13 black children in England and the crowd chanting "N**** burn better than petrol." Reminded me of stuff you might read in US history books.
You must live in an incredibly sheltered part of the American population. I know plenty of Americans, none of whom are black and all of whom use nigger frequently.

When exactly is this supposed to have happened and where did you read it. I have never, ever, ever heard of anything like this happening in the UK.
