Thanks for explaining in a clear manner!

For my understanding, why would this be important to have?

At times it caused some to display some humor in order to gain a rec. At other times it brought meanness and snottyness.

It could also stop cold an interesting thread because it would suddenly be garbaged up with sarcassm.

It was initially intended to highlight posts and threads that were worthy of reading. If you look at the top of each post it says '# recommendations'.
But the total rec count that people had scored on the site was introduced. Some people started to abuse this to run up massive amounts of personal recs for 'prestige' and self adorning reasons. This in turn depreciated the value of a lot of threads whereby you got people 'rec whoring' as it were known. - Mindless spamming in order to gain recs.
Everyone was warned that the system would be binned it this carried on but alas no. They didn't cease. So the system was scrapped.

Nope. I just didn't like the constant arguments and bickering that arose by virtue of the rec system. It made the forum a complete farce for over a month. Crazy! 🙄
Spoil sport. 🙁

And besides, I have no star. I therefore have no need for recs. 😀

Thanks again..

Well as said in another post, the main reason we are here is chess I guess, so I do not see the urgence to have a discussion on keeping or leaving out this system for the posts 🙂

But everybody's free to give his or her opion of course!

Cheers all..

Apparently it helped some people's self-esteem - and made others who didn't have as many recs jealous. Some also said it motivated them to post good posts.
