Not with contraversial issues, or arguments. I agree that the rec system gets misused at times, but it's part of the forum, and i think it would be missed if it were not there. . . i forsee many "man i wish i could rec" posts if it went.
If you agree with a post in the first place, then why not just post, "Great post" or "Totally agree".??
There doesn't serve a purpose to have a rec counter too, some have been here since 2002 and others 2006 so isn't relative in the slightest.

Not the majority.
The idea of recs is so that people don't have to pollute the forums with unnecessary "recced" posts. The only people who do post "recced" along with giving a rec are those who need people to know that they've done "a good deed", or who want people to know that the reccer has just scratched the reccee's back.
I see it like publicisin ...[text shortened]... a donation you made to charity. Crude, self-absorbed and completely unnecessary.

Wrong. I'm around now and so is the system. And thank God, else I would have missed these page one Carp gems:
Good God already. 8 recs
Did he tell you're stupid? 8 recs
Did someone kick you in the ass? 6 recs (In context, this was actually sort of funny, but 6 recs?)
No actually crap. You see I type so fast that the blue shift causes ce ...[text shortened]...
Amazing isn't it? 4 recs
Nuff said.
You spelled "stupiedity" wrong.
Piss off.

As for poluting a thread with "Huzza's" and "Good show", i think that would dilute the actual arguments, and slow down debates. Not everyone is as vocal as you or me, and i think that to allow them to rec a post is a good thing.
Also Posts of exceptional subject matter, or a really cool link, deserves to be pointed out for others to see. The main reason the rec system has not been used for this purpose up until now is because there has been nowhere to view them.
Originally posted by RagnorakCan't say that I agree with that completely. Sometimes someone posts something particularly funny, interesting and rec-worthy.
