You could say that the Internet has been a giant step forward for mankind, and that may be true, but it's also a cesspool.
Take away the reward for posting garbage and the garbage will reduce, as it eliminates an incentive to take the time.
In short, it's a case of lowest common denominator.

These are actually only a few of the worst offenders. There are countless "Beavis" types who rec due to the "huh-huh... you said jerkwad" effect.
As well as people who clutter up the forums with stupid thread spin-offs hoping for a rec.
I realize the biggest a-holes will remain so. Maybe with the rec system gone, they won't be *quite* so huge, and i ...[text shortened]... inate the "drive-by" rec done by those who think an insult is the highest form of comedy.
