That's actually very true, good point. I'd say though that overall the amount of recs given are reflective of the amount of good posts somebody puts here. Looking at my five recs they do seem to be, by and large, for when I've actually had something worthwhile to say, but not all five.

I've got far more recs for pointless posts asking for no more recs then any of my posts that I've made with any point to them. I think the largest factor deciding is if people see the post as funny although sometimes a well typed thought out argument does the job.

Some people have gotten recs by either subscribing again and giving themselves hundreds of recs (sad), or having some sad case spend hours in 1 night going through the posts, reccing them all (sadder). Examples of these are katty or bowmann.

I also wanted to get rid of recs completely but Nordlys got to the core of the solution: the problem are not recs themselves but the rec count which makes people so obsessed by recs.
