The LEGAL usage is: Any sexual act other than penis-vagina contact.
HOWEVER...the literal term (and since when do we discuss matters on legal terms? That's pathetic, especially since that would be American legal terms, which is even more pathetic) is anal sex.

Well Shav, you must remember for the most part people are stupid and over the years parts of definitions have been out of use. You would be correct in saying that if you went to anybody on the streets they would say sodomy is anal sex, but the correct definition is stated above. I think its because church groups have vilified anything "gay" they have simplified the definition to make it more paletable to the masses.
also think of this the words "gay" and "queer" don't mean homosexual.
