Interestingly, Collins define sodomy as: "anal intercourse committed by a man with another man or woman";
but the OED has it as: "Copulation between male persons; unnatural connexion between human beings and animals", which leads to another debate.
But on this topic I'd tend to blame religious fundamentalists for adding what they saw fit to their definitions to dissuade persons from committing fellatio and the like.
