It takes time and planning to put together an IED and also a bit of know how. Also if you are using ANFO then you need a detonation device. You can't just simply put a match to it and watch it go pop. Not as easy to produce as you make out. Also, it is simply ridiculous to suggest that one form of killing people shouldn't be outlawed, just because other methods of dispatching death to people are available. It might not be possible to reduce all risks but reducing some of the main ones would go a long way to creating a safer society.
You're talking out your ass. The Oklahoma City Bomb was ANFO and something that could be made by almost anyone out of readily available materials. Conspicuous enough for you and your gang banger little 9mm? Even those idiots at Columbine had propane/pipe bombs that they were fortunately stupid enough not to be able to set off. The attack was to be ...[text shortened]... arby buildings. The bomb was estimated to have caused at least $652 million worth of damage."
What makes more sense? Giving people guns and educating them on how not to shoot each other or just not giving them shooters in the first place? It's a no brainer as far as I can see.
As for people having a right to defend themselves in their own homes; I'm all for this but you don't need a gun to do this. Tazers, pepper spray, knives and baseball bats are quite effective alternatives.
We are all to blame for this as our society is built around greed.
The chain of events leading up to this dreadful act are deep within how each of us conduct our lives.
Greed starts from day one of everybody's life, if I remember rightly one or two religions tried curtailing this, but as the smart asses have proven God could not possibly exist, there is nothing any more keeping greed in check.
From small acorns do large problems grow.
Banning guns or any other weapon is a complete waste of time.

Just a few hours before the tragedy in the US, in China, a man walked into an elementary school and injured 22 children with a knife:

You understand we invented the gods, right? Your heart is good but your aim is off.
I think the religious thing when done properly and not misinterpreted worked rather well.
Thou shalt not kill I think was one of the rules and if you break it then you are not really following God, no matter how you justify and reconcile it with yourself.
Sadly though, I think you are right, the true information regarding God has been twisted to meet the greedy ends of a few.
As a scientist I still believe there is a mysterious mathematician at work somewhere.

Looking forward to talking more tomorrow. But for now i think that cutting off guns to the american public is like cutting of tobacco. What about starting with a ban on automatic guns? australia did it. The people complained but eventually get over it.
As HoH pointed out earlier, the choice of weapon in this case happened to be a gun.
The only true solution is for us to admit we have fecked up and get our priorities right.

I'm a gun advocate. Perhaps more than that I'm an advocate of personal freedom. Having said this, I'm also an advocate personal responsibility. I expect people to be held accountable for their actions and/or inactions. This is part of how I would expect a free society to work. However, with today's shocking murder of children I can't help but won ...[text shortened]... pathies go out to the families of those affected by this senseless slaughter of innocents.
