In a way it does. Why should those who have learnt and studied openings play against someone who just follows a database's instructions? Not really fair is it?
I think it is equally "unfair" that some people here who have never read chess books or studied at all should have to play those who learned from such places to control the center, increase their pieces' mobility, etc. etc. To meet your criteria of "fairness", no player should ever have been exposed to any chess knowledge possessed by anyone else.

Originally posted by Vladamir no1CC is there for players who want to use analytic tools during their games to improve their quality of play. If you object to this, you should play on a timed site like FICS.

But I like it here and I like you, can we be friends?
P.S I'm guessing you use one
Sure I do and it's improved my opening repertoire greatly. I also read chess books on openings as well. I even move the pieces around on sideboards when I'm analyzing my CC games. The horror.

I may be wrong, but I would expect that most players wouldn't lie about it if you ask them, since they aren't doing anything wrong. I use databases, and I certainly don't have a problem "admitting" it.
What REALLY bugs me more is not the use of them, but the secretive use of them. [ie. pretence that they are not being used]

Your refutations unveil your guilt
I need to speak to someone more objective
Please leave this thread
I thankyou

I've got a 1980 rating from using a databaase and you're making me feel like i'm cheating even more than I already do.... so I'll defend database use not to convince you but to convince myself
