I know what you mean, our town centres are no-go areas during the evening now, which is pretty sad as I live in Brighton on the South coast. It used to be a great time to spend an evening in town, you know have a drink,a meal, walk along the sea front in the Summertime, you can't do this any more because of our Governments so called relaxed drinking laws, which basically means having to run the gamut of these idiots that have been in the pub(or have been drinking alcohol bought from off-licences).A pretty poor showing really. Was it me or did the Government say that as soon as the licensing laws were relaxed,we would all revert to the continental way of regarding alcohol consumption,I don't think so.

We don't often agree Smaug. But I am with you on this one. Time to get out!

Just to clarify... "charver" is a Geordie term meaning someone who kills old women for their fish and chips, or rapes and beats people simply to hurt them.. whatever, someone who acts in an evil way. They might wear a uniform but not necessarily, and they might not wear one but still be a charver. The back formed verb is "to chav" which is wrongly used by Southerners as the adjective.

Hoodies are a different breed. They may act in a similar way but they hide their faces because they're ashamed of what they do. The Charver suffers no such shame.

They're still little scumbags wherever you come from.

what's your worst experience with these feral young?

As for calling them "chavs" or "neds", those titles are worn as badges.

No I agree. Just like to clarify them linguistically.

They should be punished. If they kill someone they should be killed. If they beat someone they should be whipped. If they steal they should be fined. If they're antisocial they should be stocked.

And people like me who whinge about the breakdown of our society without doing anything to fix it should be given a good hard slap. Preferably a happy one.

Five years ago I was battered to a pulp with baseball bats in Widnes, Cheshire. All for my phone! I was hospitalised for 2 weeks with a smashed jaw! They were all wearing hoods!........ broad daylight too!

Main road. Nobody stopped to help! That's when I decided I'd had enough and left. OK. Just my experience. But it's becoming a much more common experience. They finished kicking my head when a bus driver eventually stopped. And off they went, on their little mountain bikes....... all for a Nokia phone. Intelligent young bastards!

I'm not so sure Smaug. Granted, the Glaswegians are a hard people. Look at the comments of they guy who tackled that terrorist: "We don't take it from other Glaswegians so we're certainly not going to take it others." God love 'em.

But you get that kind of behaviour (needless aggressive violence, not bravely tackling terrorism) all over the UK.

I agree Smaug. I'm generally shockingly liberal too but I can't abide unjustified aggression. Why do you think I love chess? I can be aggressive without moral repercussion.
