The post that was quoted here has been removedBut I do wonder if it makes us more cynical. The attack had a profound affect upon me for months. I never went out. I was afraid to walk to the local paper shop. Everybody who wore a hood I hated - and still do. But that has to be unjustified, doesn't it?
I really do sit here, right now, in peace and tranquility in Thailand, a land of non-engagement, little violence and youngsters full of respect for elders and think to myself "Thank f I am not in England anymore!"
Even in China, my time coming upto 2 years there, I have never seen a fight or abuse! OK you go to jail for 20 years if you do, but that deterrent makes for societies where peoples' space is respected. I'm all for huge penalties even for the smallest of crimes. It appears to work well in Asia to maintain peoples' safety.
I hope your attack didn't have the same affect upon you as mine did!

One girl in college said to me once that "drinking's not fun anymore now that I'm 21 and I can just go get alcohol any time I want." It's the Forbidden Fruit syndrome. The restrictions are relaxed, people pig out on formerly forbidden items, then they move on.

The thing that I find amusing is how stupid a lot of hoodies are. I live in an area where if you walk around at night you're gonna get hassled by a guy in a hood or two. The thing I've discovered is that if you wear a hoodie when walking home at night and look meaner then they do, then they leave you alone. It's great. Like some new alpha male walking around their territory only instead of challenging the new male as would happen in the animal kingdom, they just look at each other and scratch haha 🙂
